Introduction
This page has been created for the 'My One True Love'
page challenge at Beyond
The Horizon. Those that know me well will understand straight
away, but for those who don't I guess I should explain. For
a few years now my passion has been cars. Nine months ago
I acquired the car I had but dreamt of when I was 10 years
old. My '91 Lotus Elan SE Turbo.
The theme of this page symbolises the freedom and life this
car gives, the drive is as exhilarating as nature itself.
All of the images, backgrounds and photographs on this page
were created or photgraphed by me, and are not to be used
or taken without permission.
The Elan
Elan production first began towards the end of 1989,
the first USA market cars were released in June 1990. A total
of 3855 Elans were built when production of the “Series
1” finished in July 1992. Most of these were to SE turbo
specification, only 180 were normally aspirated. Just 539
federal Elans were ever built with only 117 being delivered
to Californian spec. When ownership of Lotus Cars moved to
Bugatti a further 800 “Series 2” cars were built
in 1994, 500 for the UK, Japan and Australia and 300 LHD for
continental Europe.
Technical Specification
Now for the business end! The Lotus Elan is powered by a 1.6litre
4 Cylinder Turbocharged Isuzu Lotus engine. In stock form
this engine pushes out 160bhp and reaches 60mph in 6.7seconds.
Shortly after getting my car I increased the turbo boost pressure
giving it a power increase to circa 210bhp. The exceptional
Lotus handling keeps the car on the road even on the most
demanding of bends. The Elan has been referred to as the Fastest
Point to Point car ever made in an article comparing it to
the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Lancia Delta Integrale Evolution,
both cars with considerably larger engines, and price tags!
